Each GCSE scheme of work embeds new teaching strategies to achieve the following aims:

  • to improve the teaching and learning of Business Studies at GCSE level by implementing and monitoring new strategies, particularly in relation to the development of Business Studies language already identified as a barrier to pupil learning, particularly for the less able and multilingual pupils;
  • to monitor the effects of new teaching and learning strategies on both attainment and attitude; to develop students' Personal Learning and Personal Skills;
  • to determine the processes of reviewing and monitoring students' performance within schools including the processes of action planning and recording of achievement in the subject;
  • to enhance more education/business links through partnerships, and curriculum development;
  • to broaden access to work through encouraging the school to introduce a wider range of vocational qualifications and work related opportunities;
  • to develop partnerships to enhance the planning of education and training provision.

Introduction

These worksheets could be use as extension activities. Some teachers might decide to give their students the opportunity to think about setting up their own business. This should make unit 1 more practical and inspiring for both teachers and students.

These worksheets should help students to:

  1. choose a new business idea
  2. plan the development of this idea
  3. work and cooperate with others to develop a workable idea
  4. draw up a business plan
  5. work with other students to implement this workable idea
  6. review the implementation of this idea e.g. identify areas of strengths and weaknesses
  7. present their ideas to others in a clear manner, to communicate, to persuade them that their ideas are workable

These practical activities should give the student the opportunity to:

  1. develop entrepreneurial skills by carrying out activities that allow them to be creative and to generate ideas that they can develop into a business venture
  2. draw up a business plan and an implementation plan and identify the key personnel required to run a business enterprise
  3. communicate the merits of their idea for a business venture to prospective investors
